A Round-up of the Latest Travel News

Stay informed and up to date about what’s new in the world of travel. Each week I’ll provide you with a quick summary and links to the latest travel news.

Here’s the news this for this week:

1. Travelers Beware!

Tourists = Opportunity; well at least in the eyes of a thief. It happens to even the most experienced travelers. This week, Rick Steves admitted that he was pickpocketed this summer; on the busy metro in Paris. It happened to us a couple of years ago in Vienna. Unfortunately, if you’re a tourist, you’re a target. Rick offers some tips on keeping safe, and what to do if you’re a victim.

2. Upgrading Economy Class?

Could it really be true? I had heard that Delta was going to provide a few extra perks in economy class on long haul flights, but I didn’t realize that this is a trend. Conde Nast Traveler writes that several airlines are making changes to economy class travel.

3. Finding Fall’s Peak Colors

If seeing the leaves at their peak fall colors is your thing, SmokyMountains.com is trying to make it a bit easier for you. They have created a map which will predict the timing of the peak colors week by week, throughout the US.

4. Selfie Deaths

No photo is worth a life; yet some people seem to think no danger is too great. Common sense should prevail before doing something dangerous just to get the ultimate photo for Instagram or a Facebook page. Seriously, what is wrong with people? (A Forrest Gump quote comes to mind.) Travel + Leisure reports on the latest.

5. Hong Kong Protests

Protests again went on over the past weekend and spilled over into today. Protesters did not shut down the airport however, they did deny passengers access by disrupting access to the airport. An editorial in Chinese state media made an ominous statement: “the end is coming for those attempting to disrupt Hong Kong.” The US State Department Travel Advisory for Hong Kong remains at Level 2.

There you have it, this week’s round-up. Have you downloaded your free vacation planning guide? You can request it at the end of my blog post: How to Plan a Vacation Five Easy Steps.
