A Round-up of the Latest Travel News

Stay informed and up to date about what’s new in the world of travel. Each week I’ll provide you with a quick summary and links to the latest travel news.

Here’s the news this for this week:

1. Airline Middle Seat Redesign

Woohoo!! Middle seaters, pay attention! As the youngest of three children, guess who was always stuck in the middle of the back seat of the car. And, for those of you who remember rear wheel drive cars, that meant, I got the hump too. Since my husband likes to sit by the window on the plane, I often end up in the middle seat there as well. It’s been a long time coming, but the FAA has recently approved a new redesign of the middle seat, making it more comfortable and accessible. They are about to be installed and used on some short haul flights, the airline was not disclosed. If you see them, let me know!

2. Texting Delta’s Customer Service

It’s just a trial version for invitees right now, but, Delta Airlines is trying to be more accessible. Based on this story in USA Today, it doesn’t sound like it is going too well. You still have to wait to interact with a human. But, we can hope it gets better before they roll it out to everyone.

3. Cruise Ships Banned from Venice?

There were a lot of stories last week stating that beginning in September 2019, large cruise ships would be banned from Venice. However, it appears that reporting was not quite on the money. At this time, no action has been taken to actually ban the ships, and I did a brief check of a couple of the cruise lines press pages, with no mention of changes in Venice. Even if it does happen, it doesn’t mean the port of call will be cancelled, they just won’t dock downtown.

4. Universal’s Epic Universe

Apparently there’s been buzz for some time that Universal Studios Orlando would be adding a new theme park. Well, now it’s official. Universal’s Epic Universe is coming… sometime… in the future. No dates were announced, so don’t book those flights just yet!

There you have it, this week’s round-up. Have you downloaded your free vacation planning guide? You can request it at the end of my blog post: How to Plan a Vacation Five Easy Steps.
